There’s plenty of fun to be had on Corfu. Great beaches, great watersports and some great bars and restaurants all add up to a perfect holiday. And with its beautiful scenery, it’s small wonder that the island also attracted more than its fair share of artists and writers, from Goethe to Oscar Wilde, and from Alfred Sisley to Edward Lear.
The island also has a fascinating history. According to the ancient myths, it was here that Jason and the Argonauts landed with the Golden Fleece. Since then, Corfu has been occupied by the Corinthians, Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, Ottomans, French and British – and they have all left their mark on the island. But after heavy bombing during World War II, only a quarter of the old city of Corfu survived.
We want you to enjoy your time here to the full, so we have produced this guide to help you find your way around.
